Gravedona

BeautifulItaly, Gravedona, Travel

Gravedona is a beautiful village located on the western bank of the Altolario. This beautiful resort is considered by many to be the most important center of the upper Lake for its great historical, artistic and religious heritage.

The position of Gravedona is really privileged and strategic, as it lies in the magnificent gulf at the end of the Liro valley, opposite Piona (another location of considerable historical-religious interest) and Mount Legnone, the highest of all the valleys of Coma. Thanks to his geographical position, Gravedona enjoys a mild climate in all seasons, queen of which is summer, caressed by the kind and characteristic breeze coming from the lake.

At the entrance to Gravedona, coming from the North, you are greeted by the massive Palazzo Gallio.

Historically Gravedona has even prehistoric origins: here you can find cupelliform boulders and cremation tombs typical of gallic populations (V-IV centuries BC).

The Roman era has left Gravedona with tangible signs, especially with regard to the urban planning of the village. An example of this is the Ancient Via Regina, an axis that connected Milan to Chiavenna, passing through Como. Other notable Roman testimonies within the country are the areas found inside and outside the Church of “Santa Maria del Tiglio“. The other churches to visit are: the Church of “Madonna della Soledad (Solitudine)” on the lakefront in the area of the “Castle”, the Church of “Santa Croce a Naro”, frescoed by Sigismondo De Magistris, the church of “San Carlo”, the Church of “”San Lorenzo in Segna”, the Church of Saints Nabore and Felisi in Negrana, the Church of St. Martin in Traversa and the Church of “San Pietro in Costa”.

Gravedona tells its important story through its churches, 12, in which are contained works dating back to the most remote times.

This village is not only made of history, but of lbeautyful landscape and many activities of recreation and relaxation. How not to mention the lido with the two beautiful pools, beaches, shops and for the most sporty the athletic track and life paths.

Gravedona is a very romantic place, especially in the summer season, with its lakeside-walks fireworks, unmissable to color the hottest and most magical summer nights.
